With literally days away from my due date, I have finally finished putting together Iris’ nursery/bedroom! We have assembled her crib in our bedroom because she’ll be sleeping in our room for about a year, but we wanted her to have her own cute play area that will transition to her bedroom when she’s older.

I wanted her room to feel like a cottage in a fairy tale. I wanted there to be florals and natural elements, like wood and bamboo tones. I started with her feature wall that was painstakingly hand-painted by yours truly. I originally bought this stencil off of Etsy, but when I began to use it on our heavily textured walls it refused to work properly. I was determined to have this print on her wall though, so I ended up painting each little design by hand. It took about two weeks of nap times to complete! Her curtains were also something I envisioned from the beginning, but could not actually find anywhere! I ended up asking my mother-in-law, who is an expert seamstress, to create my design and she nailed it. I love how storybook and sweet the scallops are!

Iris’ actual bed (guest bed for now!) was my only real splurge for her room. The bed frame is from World Market and when I saw it for the first time I couldn’t get it out of my head. It was the perfect natural look that I was going for, and luckily we snagged it during a furniture sale when it was 30% off and I opened a rewards account to get an additional 15% off! The pintuck pillows were from Urban Outfitters and Ross, and lastly, the pom pom duvet cover was from Amazon! It’s incredibly soft and I love the simplicity of it.

The next feature of Iris’ room is her shelving unit that my dad actually built for me when I was about ten years old. It happened to be the perfect natural wood tone that I was going for and I can picture her using it for years to come!

I’m on a minimalist kick right now, so I didn’t want to bombard the shelves with too many decor pieces. The bottom half is used for storage of essentials like her blankets, socks, headbands, and toys, but the top half is used for her books and other cuteness like these custom letter blocks I picked up for her from Bannor Toys. The wooden animal puzzles were actually found at a local Goodwill!

Next is my favorite spot of Iris room: her reading wall! Again, I was going for a storybook feel and I think these art pieces, along with the natural wooden ikea book shelves worked perfectly! Every book featured on her shelves was found in a variety of second hand shops and the little rocking chair was mine when I was little.
I had seen this alphabet poster on Instagram and knew I needed it when I noticed the letter “I” featured an Iris. I picked up the poster from Wild Creek Co. The girl portraits are prints by one of my favorite artists, Emily Winfield Martin, who wrote and illustrated the book “The Wonderful Things You Will Be”, and the frames were found at a Goodwill.
Lastly, a few hidden details throughout her room were these sweet hanging baskets I got on clearance at Joann’s filled with some faux flowers. And right by her door I hung this handmade doll banner that my mom made for me when I was little, and a letter board with one of my favorite Beatles quotes from “Dear Prudence”.

Overall, I’m so happy with her little room of sweetness! I’m so glad I took the time to style it just as I had envisioned it. My son Blake already loves her room so much that he asks to play in it daily. I can’t wait to see the two of them read and play together in this little story book home!
